Re: [cobalt-users] Advice on SSH

Chad,

There are two great books out there, at least in my humble
opinion, that will answer your questions not only about SSH but
about a lot of security options. The first is "Linux System
Security" by Scott Mann, and Ellen Mitchell. Published by
Prentice Hall with a cover price of $48.99 US and 550 pages of
information. The ISBN number is 0-13-015807-0. The second is
"Maximum Linux Security: A Hacker's Guide to Protecting Your
Linux Server and Workstation." by an Anonymous author. In fact,
the blurb about Mr. Anonymous on the back reads like this,
"Anonymous is an experienced computer hacker who was convicted of
a series of financial crimes after developing a technique to
circumvent bank security in automatic teller machine systems." I
don't know about all of that, but the book is very technical and
requires a lot of time to be devoted to it to be digested. It's
ISBN number is 0-672-31670-6.

So this will not be misconstrued as a read the * (insert
expletive) * manual post, I'd be happy to offer any advice that I
could give. However, I haven't gotten to SSH yet, myself. I'm
still reading the chapters on ipchains and IP Masquerading. I
would, however, recommend these books highly to anyone who is
trying to administer a Linux box who wants to know where the
better known security holes exist.
