RE: [cobalt-users] Advice on SSH

Chad and anyone else,

You should install SSH. It isn't the end all (according to list
members), but it does go a step in the direction of securing the remote
administration of your box.

You can get the file from links on http://www.ssh.fi There are links
to other countries and a US gov't site is where I got it.

There are instructions on the Knowledge Base on how to install it (it
being ssh1 for me). Follow them and you'll be fine.

Like Dan K. said, backup anything that you are going to overwrite, so
that should it get mucked up you can backtrack to what works. I don't
think installing ssh overwrites anything, just adds.

Lyle Scheer said something to this effect quite some time ago (not a
quote, just my interpretation of what I recall he mentioned): Always
make backups/copies of files you are going to futz with. Then you can
back track to the originals and your warranty is back in place. The way
I understood it, when you void the warranty it's not like breaking the
sticker on your hard drive, you can put it back to where it was and you
are still covered. I can't make claims for Cobalt, I am not affiliated
with them other than own a RAQ1 and colocate a RAQ2, so your mileage may
vary...
