Re: [cobalt-users] They want FTP access

>New user to the list here, but wanted to drop my 2 cents in here. Why not
use a chroot'd ftp for these users. This will prevent them from
browsing/reading any other part of the file system. I'm assuming you are
just their web hosting provider and not their web developer. Obviously
being their web developer and allowing them to do their own web development
would cut into your pocketbook.

I am their developer and their hosting service.. this second one that asked
for FTP access, the husband wrote this AM saying he's been to HTML classes
and wants to do the site himself :) This one also is a cart.. its a
commission cart so the more I think about it.. the more I'm going to say
no.. send me the files and I'll place them.. I am the developer for all the
sites on my RaQ.. so they really don't need access.. but as life moves on
and more and more people think well I can do this.. they are going to want
to :)

>We just got in our first Raq3 and so far I'm impressed with the web based
frontends. I imagine that we will probably use this sort of scenerio, but
again we will only be in the position of hosting provider and not developer.

I can't see how you could deny FTP (telnet yes but not FTP) to a client who
is doing his own development.. how else would they upload the site unless a
web based interface is supplied?? (which are damn slow and annoying IMHO)
