Thanks guys, sorted.

No idea why it happened though...b

Now to review the backup policy!  (I use raqbackup but not really sure 
it does what I need, to include all sites, plus MySQL plus mailman 
installation, and the knowledge that I could restore to another server. 
Any one able to suggest a rock solid system?)
