Good Morning - 1043 here in the UK.
This is just a little note of thanks plus a little plea for some sanity.
Firstly - Two words of thanks. The first word of thanks is to those
who responded to my plea for
an updated PHP + MYSQL package. Gerald suggested one source that was
$40 - Now this price was reasonable.
But I just don't have it. I run a single RAQ which was supposed to
make me a few extra pennies to keep my daughters
in the style to which they would like to become accustomed. To date,
Although I have made a few hundred dollars
on selling domains and web sites etc, I am still in negative equity
when it comes to the blue washing machine.
Eventually I found the free source for the PHP and now my little
program works. (I still would like a MYSQL 4 though!)
My second word of thanks is also for Gerald who hosts my little blue
box. He does a wonderful job in keeping these excellent
machines on the road - and imho deserves a medal - and next time I get
to New Haven, I'm going to
buy a couple of bottles of excellent Chardonnay and after blessings,
will invite Gerald to join me in getting slowly and deliberately wise!
Secondly, I know I contribute little to the lists but this little
community has helped me so much
over the last few years. From Zeffie to Jeff and Gerald and Dan and
everyone else - who has come and gone
(I still miss dreadfully the wise contributions of mother - CarrieB -
where is she??)
Looking at the lists over the last week or so has saddened me a little.
I confess that I don't understand the issues
involved and therefore maybe I shouldn't interfere (I was flamed once
before for calling for a truce)
It seems to me that what is important is that the list survives in the
best possible form. The debate has been raging on
the list and there appears no consensus (or if there is - the
signal/noise ratio is out of whack)
I guess this is how it is in the rather free and anarchic community
that is *nix. (Not that I would advocate Windoze!)
But I do say this - If Moses had put it to the vote or on a list - the
Jews would STILL be in Egypt. Just DO it! - READY FIRE AIM -
Yes in that order - I'm quite serious - Keep the momentum
We need to keep our boxes going. Despite their age and slowness at
times, I still believe that we have
an excellent hosting appliance -
Thank you one and all for listening to my ramblings - I'd better get on
with the sermon for tomorrow - Sunday.
Blessings and peace
Revd Leonard
