Somewhere around a year ago Bruce Timberlake and I had some discussions
over what would happen when/if Sun decided to pull the plug on the
lists.
So when Craig announced they were, I contacted Bruce and suggested what
we'd mentioned back then... that as a prior list-owner he would be the
ideal person to be the list-owner of the lists once they were moved,
and that I'd help move them.
My thoughts originally were to host them myself at email-lists.com, a
commercial list-hosting venue I've run for almost six years. (No,
there's no home-page.)
But then Ryan Verner offered to host them on his almost unusued
qbalt.com server, set up the lists, set up Bruce and I as list
administrators, and gave me user access to the server.
So I didn't need to upgrade from Majordomo (which I've used for over ten
years) to Mailman afterall; Ryan already had it running.
I've had lots of experience in moving lists and announced here I was
going to move the cobalt lists to an off-Sun server.
And as we say here in earthquake country, "That's when the shift hit the
sand."

I'm actually still moving forward (though I'm going to be on hold
through the weekend so other things in my life get done), though it
would appear that a vocal minority wants this list to die completely
rather than be moved.
