Hi,
1) No, you can build the tarball in any location you like. /usr/src would be
ok, or just the directory you uploaded too.
2) No, the postgresql support is needed for the GUI, withhout rebuilding the
Pg module you would end up with a dead gui in the machine.
Keep in mind that many third party packages build against perl, if you
already have things such as mailscanner there is a reasonable change you
will have to reinstall/rebuild them against the new perl version.
The Qube 3 and RAQ-500 Perl 5.8.x upgrades are already used by many
installs, the RAQ4 upgrade is rather new, and i do not yet have extensive
feedback on it. It is tested agains GUI functionality and agains Mailscanner
and ClamAV, but not yet against all system tools. (such as
cmuImport/cmuExport which needed additional modules on the 550).
