Perhaps the reason you don't get a response is because you're hijacking
someone else's thread. That's rude, and it causes people to miss your
post. Or see it as irrelevant while they're reading about something
else, and skip over it.

In and of itself, it doesn't eliminate anything. What it does is adds
another path to the domain.
Your httpd daemon is NOT following the path; your probably need a
FollowSymLinks option somewhere for your domain root directory, in
httpd.conf.
Perhaps a recent update broke it.
