You would use smtp auth
http://www.sendmail.org/~ca/email/auth.html
which is already installed :)
man saslpasswd
man sasldblistusers

Use something like...
saslpasswd -c username
(enter a passwd)
then
sasldblistusers
to see the users and "username"
and turn it on in your mail program...
(Don't do this on older systems)

to delete the user just do...
saslpasswd -d username

that's it... have fun
