You can. We do. We use, and highly recommend, the exim mailserver for
this sort of work. It's fast, secure, highly scalable, and has a very
fine control.

If your RaQ is set to do be a secondary MX it will attract a lot of spam
itself. We don't do that at all. For clients for whom mail is
important to pay a lot to get it done right, we set up two MX systems
to scan, and deliver to one that doesn't have an MX record. With
sendmail you can do that with mailertable. But with exim we have
extremely fine control, so we use exim.
