I didn't write the above line; you did. It should have been above the "On 15 Marhc" line <smile>.

(1) Is this off topic ? (as I am new to this list I don't know)

Probably. So feel free to not reply.

However, I don't think information about how to best read a mailing list is offtopic on the mailing list. But who am I to say. I defer to your better judgement <very big smile>.

(2) I use The Bat! for my email. Please note my comments below.

Okay.

The Bat! can do this. There are 4 different ways to view threads. One of
which is referance. The problem mailers that are not RFC complient eg
M$.

And Eudora <frown>.

The Bat! can do all of that even within the same account.

Good <smile>.

The Bat! is not free you can get a 30 free trial after that it is about
$39 (I Think). It will only run on a M$ platform this should not be a
problem as most emails on this list are from an M$ platform.

It's a problem in the long run; I AM trying to switch to a linux platform in house. But for the moment I'm still on MSWin98/NT.

You can do this with The Bat! You can even change the personality
depending on which folder the message is from or who you are replying
to.

So far so good.

I don't see the reason for this one but there are many ways of setting
it up. I have it set up for multiple accounts they each have there own
directory.

I gave the reason, but I'll reiterate it and explain further: It's so I can keep my business subdirectories quite separate from my personal ones. My business subdirectories are on one drive, my personal subdirectories on another (has to do with making backups). I know of no client that can keep disparate subdirectory trees on disparate drives. If The Bat! or Calypso can do so, then that most likely eliminates my need for separate instances. However, I spend hours not even starting my instance of Eudora that reads my personal email, while the instance that reads my business is always on.

The web site is http://www.ritlabs.com/the_bat/ there is a list of some
of it features from the web site.

(1) Unlimited multiple accounts and multiple users
(2) Familiar Explorer-style folders for organizing messages
(3) Easily configurable user interface with message preview option
(4) Process email in the background for all accounts simultaneously
(5) Built-in HTML email viewer and message editor with spell-as-you-go

Only if (5) is optional. I will NOT use HTML email. Neither should anyone else. That's my story and I'm sticking to it <smile>.

(6) Fully customizable message templates for maximum flexibility
(7) Powerful filtering for automated message handling
(8) Sophisticated address book for storing all personal information
(9) Unique Mail Ticker? for email notification
(10) Mail Dispatcher for managing email on remote servers
(11) Multi-lingual interface supporting 15 languages on the fly
(12) Support for all PGP versions from 2.6x through 6.5
(13) Import message bases from all major email clients

Which should be pretty easy, since all major email clients use unix-style mail files.

(14) Many more features for managing email quickly and easily...

But how about the ones I need <smile>...

I'll try it.

Jeff
