This was discussed in a previous thread and is available in the archive, but
since it is such a great tip (Originally by Jeff Lasman) I will provide a
brief summary here:
Assign an IP for your namebased clients. (like 122.54.45.15) The first
virtual host you create on that IP should be a "default" site for your
clients. Something like clients.yoursite.com. If someone tries to visit
one of your customer's sites and has an older brower that doesn't support
namebased hosting, they will be directed to this default site. From this
"clients" site you should have clickable links to each of your clients
virtual sites accessable via symbolic link from your "default" site.
(i.e. http://clients.yoursite.com/theirsite) So this solution not only
solves the problem of browsers not supporting namebased hosts, it also
provides you with a method of previewing the site prior to propagation of
the DNS. I use it myself and it works well!
