Dave,
I forgot I use the RaQ and you have a Qube... I received the "chopped"
version of Legato with my RaQ2's. The RaQ3's have a "chopped" version of
Arkeia on them. If you don't have one of these that came with your RaQ, I'd
suggest checking out the following resources for a freeware, console based,
and/or "cheap" GNU backup systems. Many are very good.
http://www.fokus.gmd.de/linux/ (woven goods)
http://www.merlinsoftech.com/ (my favorite X11 based backup for the price,
under $100 and has all the bells n whistles)
http://www.estinc.com/ (BRU, I don't know how expensite it is, but it has
been proven time and time again by company professionals to be very reliable
and equivilent to the best backup systems out there).

Hi Tom, Peter, etc..
No, no, no Tom <grin>. Peter's problem is the 'usual' 'web backup not good
enough' problem. I realise that all backup programs have limitations but
with the Qube (and I guess the raq), you can get into a situation where
backup is sucessful but you cannot restore from it! and yes scheduling will
work but this just gets you in the same mess of not being able to restore.
I hear what you say Tom, but how much is Legato? I will hold my hand up and
say I haven't actually priced it but there have been a few people on this
list that have that have and I think it was 1000 + for a 5 client - more
than the cost of the Qube! I'm sure Legato is really cool, but you know
it's going to be expensive when you see the form you have to fill out for a
quote!
Anyhoo, if this was me, on my Qube I would upload the .qub file to the admin
directory (so it appears on the web page) as I assume this is faster. I
have also had better results using a faster machine, also if your network is
not 100 you could use a cable with a twist to speed up net traffic (saves
buying a 100 hub for these sort of tasks).
Currently I am backing up the configuration (500k) and then backing up the
users data via the Samba shares. I would like a way to alter the
'something' file on the qube that controls what the user sees and has access
to as even from the admin acount you cannot see the users directories and
therefore back them up. (I'm sure this is a Jeff type problem <grin>)
