Ahoy
You ask:

Well, yes, there used to be. It was called MKStats. It kept running stats in
a place separate from the logfile, so that you didn't have to reinvent the
wheel. Wonderful for impressive reporting detail and configurability.
You can still hunt around the web for an old copy of MKStats. However, you
will have to be a perl guru to set it up. It used a funky time formatting
procedure which needs replacement for Y2K. Also, there is no support,
because this FREE script was so effective that WebTrends, an expensive but
inferior product, bought it up and buried it, just to get it off the market.
I use a very customised and consolidated version of MKstats on two sites.
Wait - I still know where to get the original. I will tar it and put it at
www.webmost.com/scout/mkstats.tar for you to download later today.
