Let's say all your sites, and your DNS are on the same server.

Let's say your server goes down.

Let's say I'm following a link, because I just read that you've got the 
best fubars in town, and I desperately need some.

Would you rather I get an error that says I can't connect, or that says 
there's no such domain?

Let's say I've just sent you an email to let you know your grandmother died 
and left you a quarter-million dollar Ferrari in her will.

Would you rather my mail-server tries to deliver the email for the next 
four days (notifying me after four hours that it still can't reach you), or 
would you rather I get it back saying there's no such domain?

Let's say your long-lost friend from Jr. High School (you remember the one) 
just got out of prison and he's trying to reach you to bum $1000 off you so 
he doesn't have to knock off another liquor store... well, forget this 
analogy; in this case you'd probably rather he think there's no such domain 
<smile>.
