If my calculations are correct.......
1 GB = 1024 MB = 8,388,608 kiloBIT per month (30 days) = ~3.24 kbit per
second.
Here's how we figure (rounded slightly).
100 Kilobits/second Sustained Rate - 260 Gigabits/month (32 Gigabytes/month)
BUT: Remember that it's a "sustained" rate. Do you use all of your
capacity at every moment? We sure don't. If we get over 30% to 40% of
capacity, we need a larger pipe <smile>. (Don't get the impression from
this that our capacity is 100 Kilobits/second; it's much higher; we have
multiple T-3s available to us for transit at any given time. We do pay for
it, though <smile>.
Please be aware of the fact that 3.24 kbit is an awesome low speed limit.
Consider that you get 56kbit (max) with an ordinary 08 / 15 modem, and you
get the idea.....
You do get 56kbit from your (ordinary) modems? No one in the US
does. Ever; it's above the legal rate. "Normal" is more like 44 kbps. On
a good day <smile>.
