Sure, watch /var/log/maillog.  "tail -f /var/log/maillog" then ask your
user to pop mail, then send mail.

Here's what a relay bounce looks like with version 1.2 of
POP-before-Relay.pkg on a RaQ 2:

relay=pyro.cobaltnet.com [1.2.3.4], reject=550 <cobalt@xxxxxxxx>...
Relaying denied.  Please POP before sending.
