I also am having this problem and it is affecting my Miva Merchant
operation to the extent that it is causing me to go think of going
back to a standard Unix server. The problem occurs when the database
is packed, all of the file ownership and permissions are changed to
nobody.nobody chmod 500. I believe that is because the apache is set
to user and group nobody, but why the permission change. That change
makes the databases unavailable to the store functions. They must be
set to the site's ownership and read/write by all. If I change the
site's ownership to nobody.nobody then the user of that site can't
access their own files for maintenance. I have these setups on
non-cobalt servers and this does not occur. There are many other
instances of changes in other cgi files and again only on the cobalt.
I have written a script to change them back to the desired state but
this is a real pain....Unix BSDI and FreeBSD doesn't do this!
