Try building gmake from the SRC rpm. Find it, download it, as root do:
Rpm --rebuild gmake...
It'll end it up in /usr/src/redhat/RPMS/i386/

Hmm...
configure gives me an error:
checking version of gmake... 3.78.1, bad
Trying to install gmake 3.79.1 gives me another error:
libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.2) is needed by make-3.79.1-5
