Re: [cobalt-developers] Backups - Newbie

See

http://www.cobalt.com/support/kb/search.php3?ques=tar&qid=751&language=1

Make your adaptation to tar the correct paths for the directories/files to be tar'd
and to what directory you will wish to place the tar'd file.
I also suggest adding a -ps argument as well, in your case,
i.e.

tar -cfps /home/tmp/backup.tar /home/sites

As stated, you could download the tar'd package at intervals and
decompress it when needed with any Unix Apple or MS-Windows
tool to restore to any other server if needed,
or you can restore by using "tar -fvx" to extract back to a directory location.
Watch out for how you assign paths to avoid "/home/sites/home/sites/" type of errors.
Suggest practice with a single directory, perhaps.

why don`t you just tar to a directory on the second drive ? why wasting
your bandwith ?
