Re: [cobalt-users] [RaQ 3i] additional 40Gb HDD - can't see more than 5Gb

Well, I did the upgrade w/o success...

Here's the basic procedure --

Visit: ftp://ftp-eng.cobalt.com/pub/users/thockin/2.4/gen_III/

Following the instructions I backed up and then upgraded my ROM:

[root@cobalt ROM]# ./flashtool -v -r > backup.rom
./flashtool: searching for PCI 10b9:7101 : found it at /proc/bus/pci/00/03.0

Then I rebooted with the new ROM image, and verified that things were upgraded:

[root@cobalt /root]# cmos -c romrev
2.3.40

Looks good, so far, but even with the latest Gen3 ROM, I still can only see 5.772Gb of my new disk.

Any other ideas?

Thanks, Gerald! I have the following ROM version:

[root@cobalt RPMS]# cmos -c romrev
2.3.28

I have never flashed the ROM on my Cobalt's before -- time to get the testbox out and give it a shot. I take it that this ROM version _only_ supports ATA33?

I'll let the list know how it goes!

(btw: I have searched the cobalt-users archives, Google, and tested on
our other RaQ 3's, to no avail...)

We have a Cobalt RaQ3i with a 15Gb HDD. I need to add additional
storage, so I have installed a 40Gb HDD (hdb), but the RaQ will only add
it through the webui as a 5Gb HDD. I know the OS sees the HDD in all
it's glory:

 hda: ST315323A, 14652MB w/512kB Cache, CHS=29770/16/63, UDMA(33)
 hdb: WDC WD400BB-32AUA1, 38166MB w/2048kB Cache, CHS=77545/16/63,
 (U)DMA

Even running fdisk from the command line only allows me to see a limited
number of Cylinders (12009 instead of 77545):

 [root@cobalt /root]# fdisk /dev/hdb
 Command (m for help): p
 Disk /dev/hdb: 16 heads, 63 sectors, 12009 cylinders
 Units = cylinders of 1008 * 512 bytes

Any ideas on how to enable this HDD for full capacity additional storage?

Upgrade the ROM!

Gerald
