QBalt is very close to an initial release.  You should keep a close eye on
that. With all the news items on Cobalt and what's going to be done about
it, QBalt wasn't mentioned but it should have been.
Ryan Verner is basing it off Debian and he's doing rather well and those
wishing to make the move should look closely at it.

and think about how you can contribute.  
One of the weak points I think will be obtaining RaQs for testing. A quick
browse of EBay shows lots of RaQ's for sale though but why should Ryan or
others be forced to buy RaQ's to test software for the community.  If QBalt
takes off an the community is serious about extending the life of their
RaQ's then one support project might be to gather donations to purchase (or
gift) RaQ's to QBalt developers to aid testing. Just my 0.02.
