On 12/23/2003 12:59 PM, Chris Beaumont felt like writing:
NetBSD runs fine on my cobalt qube2 and bluntly, administering it is
orders of magnitude simpler than administering RedHat Linux system, once
you do a little learning..
I like the NetBSD philosophy of only installing a base system, and
letting the admin install software. It forces you to learn things a
little better, and also keeps unneeded cruft out of the way.
Pkgsrc rules..
Ditto. The whole package system rocks.
Updating software off the net and keeping abreast of all security
patches can similarly be completely automated.. You can set up cron to
check for security issues every night at 3:00 am or even several times a
day..then install patches automatically...
If you wouldn't mind, I'd love to hear how you do this. I have a small
NetBSD box that I'd like to keep updated, but haven't had the time to
invest to learn how to do it. Possibly straying OT for the list though...
Performance seems much better than my qube2 running Linux 2.0x too..
That's very cool.
