Easy... the first time I get a challenge/response email I block that
domain from sending to me. So I'll never get a challenge/response
email from that sending domain again.

No, I'm saying if you never send a challenge/response email to me, I'll
never list you. For the big companies, I get these and block them all
the time, but if I never get one from you I'll never know you use
challenge/response, so I'll never block it.

Dan has answered this as well as it can be answered. My personal
regrets are the mailing list problems we end up with because people
forget they use challenge/response and sign up to mailing lists, or
they don't understand what challenge/response does to mailing list
mailings, or the people who have websites with us who blame us because
they've bought services from a challenge/response company and don't get
their web form responses anymore.
