[cobalt-users] active monitor, swatch, postgresql failure

After going nuts trying to figure out what things -- among others -
were causing intermittent failures I decided to trace through as much
as possible.

My active monitor web pages were mostly greyed out; all but "disk
integrity" and "email servers". I was getting endless messages about
the inability to run 'swatch'.  My memory usage gradually increases
over time and never comes back down. Finally I checked and saw that
postgresql was not running, and that I needed to restore/recreate the
postgresql databases. 

Please, assuming that this is a problem, tell me how to get my
postgresql and swatch going again and if this could in any way
explain the problem with memory. Anything that will help me understand
what's going on and what failed will help.
