But my prob is that the 550 actually shut itself down today for the first
time re: this fan issue....

Hi,
I've the same problem with my RAQ3 (550 OS loaded). But I also upgraded the
CPU to 500Mhz. I check the temperature from time to time and it's fine.
Still I get these messages.
