The regular OS Restore process should do the ROM upgrade for you, reboot 
the XTR, then do the 550 OS installation.

That being said, it's been a LONG time since I did anything like that, 
and never with an XTR, so I'll defer to Gerald et al. for more realistic 
suggestions. :)
