[cobalt-users] Machine can't find DNS server on same subnet

I'm testing so the server that is driving me nuts is a RaQ 3i that has
been upgrading to use 550OS.

I have no idea why this is happening. I'm running my test server on my
inside network, in preparation for updating my real server. I have two
machines running DNS services. One on 192.168.1.1 is really doing so
for the benefit of a proxy server on the same machine, it does not
contain entries for the inside addresses, i.e. the 192.168.1.x net. I
have a W2K server that lives exclusively on my inside network and runs
DNS which does contain the inside address entries.

I put my test server up and I have the following situation. The test
server is fine if I tell it to use 192.168.1.1 as the DNS
server. Event though it is on the same subnet it can't find
192.168.1.20 for use as a DNS server - it can ping it and traceroute
shows there are no intervening steps since it is on the same
subnet. Yet when I try to make that the server I get a "no servers can
be found" message.

The machine at 192.168.1.1 is an XTR, that is functionally my gateway
and is using 192.168.1.20 as its DNS server, rather than using its
own.

Any ideas.
