The pop lock file does get cleaned up by itself but not in a reasonalble
amount of time for most people when they want their mail. This results in
calls "I can't get my mail, it is telling me my password is wrong!".

Try using ls -a That will show you all the hidden files in the folder. I've
noticed this happens if a person is in the middle of downloading their email
and then cancels the download. The server creates this lock file and wont
let them back in a for a few minutes. I believe the file does get deleted
after a certain amount of time. Hope this helps.
