[cobalt-users] sendmail gethostbyadd errors

Hi

Our maillog( running sendmail) was continuously showing the errors for
few of our domains as follows:

> > Sep 4 00:25:01 server sendmail[23133]: gethostbyaddr(xxx.xxx.xx.35)
failed: 1

........
........

After searching the mailing list ,found that if those addresses we mention in
the /etc/hosts file then the errros in the /var/log/maillog will be stopped..
I did the same and now the errors are not coming...

Though this is the problem of the revers PTR. But my question is, the server
where the sendmail is running was used as name server also . Now all the
domains have been transferred to the new name server and when i am searching
the domains through *dig* from this server, it is showing the result correct ,
but when i am searching *dig -x <IP>* to check the PTRs for the domains, then
from this server it is saying *NXDOMAIN* but from any other servers it is
fine... I means
there is no problem in the results of *dig*/ dig -x for the domain/PTR
lookup..

Can anyone give me some hints why this is for?

Thanks in advance.
-Swapna
