You guys are hilarious. Here is my one and only comment:
The original message was a marketing stunt and not appropriate on this list.
"I have a new package for Cobalts and am willing to give away five free
copies, email me off-list if you're interested," fine. Running the free
software lotto on my server and driving the signal to noise ratio to almost
zero, not fine.
As for the "conversation" that followed -- if you want to use this list to jab
at each other and complain so be it. It will become less and less useful
until I shut it down because it doesn't serve its original purpose anymore.
Instead, may I suggest PRIVATELY emailing your thoughts to a user you feel is
diminishing the value of the list? Conversely, if you get email from a couple
of people complaining that you are off-topic or spammy perhaps you should
review your post and ask yourself why?
The only reason I'm posting at all is because I noticed a big wad of
unsubscribes today, which made me check the archives to try and figure out
what was going on. These threads do drive people away. It's your list to
ruin, folks -- I just work here.
