Danger, Will Robinson <smile>... (and you, too, Bruce <smile, again>)
(For the benefit of those who don't know, that line is from an old TV
show; a robot is always warning the young teen of problems he's about to
get into.)
Nowhere in this thread do I see anyone mention which RaQ... I believe
the 550 does store DNS in the database.
And even on the lowly 3s and 4s...
If you should ever click on "save updates" from the control panel it
will delete everything in your DNS and replace it with DNS from the
/etc/named/records file.
And it once did the same during install of an upgrade package, though I
don't remember each one.
So I recommend making a complete copy of your /etc/named.conf file and
your /etc/named directory every night from a cron job, so you have
something to go back to if you manage it yourself.
One great alternative is to build some scripts or even a webpage, to
manage the records file, and then just use the RaQ software to rebuild
dns from the records file.
We do that for slaving; we have an imitation records file in a
web-readable directory on every RaQ we're going to slave, and several
times a day we grab those files, concatonate them, and rebuild dns from
them.
