Ok I am setting up backupemail for someone. All they did was create a lower

553 5.3.5 mail2.domain.com. config error: mail loops back to me (MX
problem?)
554 5.3.5 <afs@xxxxxxxxxx>... Local configuration error

Is it my problem or theirs. Mail2.domain.com is the A record they created
that points to my server for the mx record. Did I set this up incorrectly.

Did the person configure the mail server to accept mail for the domain? The errors seems to be at his end.

It is better to provide the real domain name when you ask a DNS or mail related question as it is easier to verify the DNS records then.
