There was an article in the June03 SysAdmin magazine on this subject.
titled 'Improving Sendmail Security by Turning it Off'
Quoting from the magazine (pg 8) "Having a sendmal daemon listening on
25/tcp opens the system up for remote exploits such as the recently
announced overflow issue."
