Looks like the upgrade to vim has screwed up the included vi <sigh>
As a temporary alternative, you can add the following to your login accounts
default directory .profile:
export EDITOR="/usr/bin/pico -w"
You can also run the command interactively from the shell prompt. You're
then using pico instead of vi which some may say is an improvement, but it's
certainly a workaround.
