Jeff,
I'm still puzzled. everything that is written in the forums, etc suggest
that pop before SMTP is the best way to go. Otherwise, your server can be
used as a relay for anyone.
You don't need a password to use someone's sendmail. Therefore pop before
SMTP makes the authorized user check their email, using their password
before they are allowed to send any mail. With pop before SMTP unchecked,
anyone can point to your sendmail server and send a message. It happens
every day. So from everything I read, the safest way to prevent spam from
routing through your server is to check pop before SMTP in the GUI.
I would like you to show me articles where you read it is the other way that
is better.
You are saying "turn off pop before SMTP to prevent some unauthorized
spammer from using your sendmail"
I say that's wrong.
