We've successfully implemented it but it isn't fun and IMHO, working with

We broke down and learned MySQL and purchased a product from
Intelligent Converters called acc2sql.

You can get a fee converter from mysql.com. Look for the MyAccess download
on this page:

We've used it to successfully convert an access db to MySQL.
