Ok,
Started over from scratch. Pulled a completely different HD from a
different PC, 19GB. Build Debian 3.0 on it based on the instructions
here: http://list.cobalt.com/pipermail/cobalt-users/2002-June/071213.html
Built a 2.4.20 kernel about as trimmed down as possible, used make
vmlinux. Ran gzip -v9 vmlinux and copied vmlinux.gz and System.map to
/boot. Swapped the drive back into the raq4. Entered BIOS mode and ran
set_boot_dev hda1 and set_params "root=/dev/hda1". No go, never gets past
"First stage kernel: Decompressing - done".
Someone has mentioned CHS translations as a possible problem. What can I
do to determine if this is the culprit? I tired googling on CHS
transations and found a bunch of stuff that was a little over my head.
Thanks again,
Josh
