When the POP before SMTP relay code was installed it changed the default
error message in /etc/mail/sendmail.cf from:

"550 Relaying denied"

to

"550 Relaying denied. Please check your mail first."

When you turn off POP before SMTP that line is not being changed back.

You can change it back manually if you want; it's the line immediately
after the line that says:

# anything else is bogus

Note that when you turn off POP before SMTP relaying sendmail will
default to it's secure behavior, which is to not allow relaying from
anywhere at all.

So what do you really want to do?
