ok now how about this...
I have a clean install from an OSR CD on hdb. But I have used Partition
magic to resize partitions hdb3 and hdb4 to make room for a larger swap
file and larger hdb1 (/var) I have also already resized the swap and
verified that the cobalt sees it properly after booting with this drive as hda.
fdisk -l gives:
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hdb1 1 1530 771119+ 83 Linux
Partition 1 does not end on cylinder boundary:
phys=(95, 254, 63) should be (95, 15, 63)
/dev/hdb2 1531 3076 779152+ 5 Extended
Partition 2 does not end on cylinder boundary:
phys=(192, 254, 63) should be (192, 15, 63)
/dev/hdb3 3076 3491 208845 83 Linux
Partition 3 does not end on cylinder boundary:
phys=(218, 254, 63) should be (218, 15, 63)
/dev/hdb4 3491 19635 8136922+ 83 Linux
Partition 4 does not end on cylinder boundary:
phys=(1023, 254, 63) should be (1023, 15, 63)
/dev/hdb5 1531 1594 32129+ 83 Linux
/dev/hdb6 2041 3076 522112 82 Linux swap
now, how, using dd do I move the boot partition, hdb5 up to take up the
slack between it and hdb6 so I can resize hdb1. Partition magic won't touch
the boot partition and drive copy is the source of all my grief in the
first place with the old drive and the boot partition.
If dd can do this easily, then I'm happy - unfortunately it's new territory
for me.
