mmm. i discovered that the qube probably isn't registrating the stuff i
fill in on the advanced tab at all! For instance, i entered force
domain "domainx". If i then use webmail and try, i see that it's just
using @qubehostname as from address. 

All the Qube updates are properly installed and the Qube is recently
rebooted as well.
