Hi Bill,

Well, we don't run mailscanner but we do run very similar
functionality on a dedicated mail server. I'm sure there are similarities
from a performance viewpoint. For example, it can take seconds to run a
message thru the series of spam filters we run on this server - Seconds...
I'm watching the mail logs on that server roll by right now. Spamassassin
took 1.2 seconds to process the last message that passed thru it. Throw
just fifty or sixty messages at it, each of which takes, for example, one
second to process, and things can quickly get out of hand.

This particular server is a real powerhouse. The most powerful
server have here by far. All is does is spam filtering. The load average
seldom goes over .05 yet both of it' processors are usually cooking and
even though I thought it would be an overkill for the size our client base
(just 500 or so email accounts), I now wish we had went with a Quad
server.

 	Best Regards,

 	Brent
