[cobalt-users] Secondary NS DNS issue with Vsites

Hi All

Following on from the current DNS thread and following Gerald's link
http://www.foobar.tm/dns/
which is very pretty!!

I am trying to get to the bottom of a secondary DNS problem which my co-lo
seems unwilling or unable to solve.
OK

our RAQ4r www.webzhost.co.uk provides its own primary DNS on
ns.webzhost.co.uk
Secondary DNS is through the co-lo on ns.enta.net

All is well with this and checks out ok.

The problem lies with virtual sites on the server for example
www.aqualec.co.uk
The primary DNS server is fine but the secondary ns.enta.net will not answer
authoritatively for this or any other virtual domains on our server.

I am pretty sure there is a problem with the co-lo setup and not ours as all
sites are done the same way.

An nslookup on the co-lo DNS server ns.enta.net returns the correct records
so the records are there, but the SOA is making this a lame server.

Restarting named produces a list of NOTIFY messages in /var/log/messages
but the only one that gets a Received NOTIFY back is the www.webzhost.co.uk
as below.

<snip>
Mar 8 19:05:55 www named[14455]: Sent NOTIFY for "webzhost.co.uk IN SOA
2002112013" (webzhost.co.uk); 1 NS, 1 A
Mar 8 19:05:55 www named[14455]: Sent NOTIFY for "aqualec.co.uk IN SOA
2002112014" (aqualec.co.uk); 1 NS, 1 A
Mar 8 19:05:55 www named[14455]: Received NOTIFY answer (AA) from
195.74.96.35 for "webzhost.co.uk IN SOA"
<snip>

I have entered the IP addresses of the co-lo DNS servers in the /dns/server
settings/ zone file box so they transfer of zone files should be allowed.

Anyone any ideas as to how to solve this problem and is it down to the co-lo
or is it something I have missed?

Whilst I have learnt an awful lot about DNS I am now stumped as I don't
think it is my fault but I want to sort this out, any comments welcomed.

Cheers
Paul.
