RE: [cobalt-users] Raq4r Email Server Timing Out..??

We have already tried increasing the time out in Outlook as you had
suggested.. we've tried increasing it to as high as 3 minutes with no better
results.

/var/log/maillog hasn't been showing any errors.. the errors have only been
on the desktop side with Outlook.

Hello,

It could be a connectivity problem from the ISP. You may ask your customer
to
ping thier/your mail server from that ISP connection and note the lost
packets
that are not coming back.

Some other solution is to ask the customer increase the timout settings in
the
outlook express. For outlook express, server timeout setting are found
under:
Tools/Accounts/Mail Tab/ ...Selct the mail account.. then choose:
Properties / Advanced Tab.
Under Advanced Tab there is a setting for "server timeout" that can be
adjusted within the range 30 seconds to 5 Min. Usually 1 Min is the normal
setting.

Can you post the exact error message, you are getting in /var/log/maillog.

Well it seems like the email client Outlook is making the connection to
the server since it identifies the server and is able to indicate how
many messages are on it for download..

What happens next is that Outlook either just hangs waiting and waiting
and now messages are downloaded or it may download a few messages then
stop with a time out message.

It gives the impression of network or Internet congestion yet access to
the web sites on the server are pretty quick and watching the mail spool
across the server the server never has been seen timing out or
indicating any errors on it's side.

Do you think that some kind of intermitten DNS related issue could be
causing this??

I will try your suggestion.. and use IP inseatd of name to see if that
resolves the problem.

Thanks much for your input!!

Jerry
