/sbin/clock
/bin/date
I believe the processor's clock is set to GMT. So maybe your time zone is 8
hours off of GMT? You can set date to GMT if it's important that they are
consistent. "man date" and see the TZ environment variable, probably by
searching a GNU site or Google.
