Just thought I should add my notes, and to show that someone else
encountered the same thing (or at least what appears to be the same thing).

I saw this similar issue on the RAQ550 I have... although I have not had
time to reboot it since to see if the same issue occurs or if it was just a
one time weird glitch....

the PKGMaster install of MySQL 3.23.54 went flawlessly, so there was never a
concern with it after we installed it, and configures root password, set up
databases, and users etc without problem.
Then later we applied a couple more of the Cobalt patches that were
available,at this time I do not recall which exact ones, but I believe there
were two and if memory serves me one requred a reboot, at that time we found
mysql had not started automatically. We started it manually, looked through
the server and It looks like everything is configured properly.. set to
start mysql automatically... so nothing 'appears' wrong.

As this RaQ550 is (and already was at the time) hosting live client websites
I dont plan to reboot it or take it down at all unless necessary.. We
figured we'd be fine, just we'd remember that if we for any reason reboot
the server we'd check mysql and start it manually if needed.

If someone else has encountered this and knows what it was and maybe a hint
to solve it, I'm sure both Matt and myself would appreciate it :)


FYI if it helps, my RAQ550 in question has PHP 4.3.0 (pkg from nuonce.net)
on it as well, and Webalizer (from pkgmaster), but otherwise just standard
Cobalt patches (I think it might not have the two newest patches or so.. but
everything seems to be running just fine...)

We just received our Cobalt Raq550 today and I installed all of the latest
updates ETC.. BLA BLA BLA Went to Package master to get the standard stuff--
Installed MySQL and after I rebooted the MySQL server would not start. I
found this out when I tried to set the default r00t password:

error: 'Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket
'/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)'
Check that mysqld is running and that the socket:
'/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' exists!

I was able to start is manually! I noticed that in the rc3.d directory
"K90mysql" exists- Shouldn't it of started automatically?
