I had a problem with some run away processes (I haven't found out what
caused it yet) that caused "too many open files in system". Basically all
pocesses were reporting the error "Too many open files in system"
(/var/log/messages, /var/log/maillog/ /var/log/httpd/error, etc)
When I came in, I couldn't console in, and the LCD panel was saying "IP Addr
not set" but when I powercycled the box, everything came back up fine. I
wonder if that IP addr not set error was simply because the LCD program
couldn't read the file that stored the system IP. The box was responding
the the system IP so it was obviously bound to the adapter.
Anyway, we only have about 50 sites on this box, I was wondering if any of
you have had to increase max files in /proc/sys/fs? The file-max setting is
8192 which I would think would be pretty sufficient. I have a feeling it
was a clients CGI script so I am going to try to track that down.
Thanks!
Bill
