Hi,
One of the sites on my Raq doesn?t use the Raq itself for DNS.. the DNS
is managed by another company on their own server. They?ve got A records
setup pointing at my Raq for web traffic, and MX records pointed at a
different server for email. That mailserver is currently down.
I?m wondering if I can tell them to change the MX records to point at my
Raq, to act as a temporary mailserver. I can set up mail accounts for
all the required users using the Raq shell tools. With MX records now
pointed at my Raq.. that would work wouldn?t it??
My key question is, upon changing the MX records would email instantly
switch to the new setting.. or does this change need to propagate ?
It?s my thinking that it is only changing the DNS servers on a domain
that takes time to propagate. Changing the records on a DNS server, so
long as it is restarted afterwards, is instant ?
So I can change the MX to the Raq, use that till the mailserver comes
back, then switch back.. without any 24/72 hour propagation periods. Am
I right?
Thanks for your help!
