It depends what the apps support and whether you have the time/skill
necessary to hack them in the event they don't support what you need. You
might want to look at LDAP. If it can't integrate with your apps, I'd
suggest using it or a database-driven app to manage logins and a script to
update the respective files used by the apps in order to update the
usernames and passwords used in each app. I hope that makes sense.
