The unit from XOasis is certainly an appliance - it is the software that makes it that. Apparently the software installs and runs on the Cobalt no problem and looks much more flexible without being more confusing.
Jerry and I will both get back to you with info we find out about this unit. The form factor is not what makes this interesting - it's the fact that they claim to have an OS/GUI which will make any form factor or platform into an appliance.
